Years before leaving his signature on the walls, Juan Carlos was already known in the neighborhood where he grew up by the nickname "El Muelle".

Although Juan Carlos himself assured in this interview for TVE in 1987 that Muelle was a neighborhood nickname, theorigin of his nickname has generated the existence of different theories.

The most widespread theory is that in the late 70's, ((Juan Carlos, how was quite skilled and used to fix the bikes of the kids in his neighborhood)) installed a motocross spring to the bike that he build from different parts,, something inusual at the time, since it was not until the mid 80's when the first bikes with suspension began to be commercialized, and because of this they began to call him Muelle.

However, the real history about the origin of his nickname dates back at 1978, when Juan Carlos was on the street with his close friend ITO. At the time a guyo from the neighborhood who used to give nicknames to people walked and told him "You hace spring face" referring to que con the way he walked he seemed like a spring.
